Description

8mm Round Rings with Dome Rivets: You asked for it – we deliver! These are 1kg packs of 8mm loose Round Rings and the matching amount of Dome Rivets. The rings are comparably bulky and heavy. At the same time, they are smooth and sturdy.

Why Round Rings? Round rings look less dense but shinier. Their rounded surface naturally supports the ring’s ability to remove rust when they rub on each other. If you want rings with a cross-section between round and flat – look no further: Get these and hit them with a hammer to your desired flatness. These round riveted rings give beautiful meshed on their own. They can be combined with our 8mm Solid Rings.

What is the quality? Not all rings are made equal and thus some rings should be sorted out to create a stronger mesh. With these, I usually remove about 20% of the rings. I typically find their rivet holes not centered enough. Perhaps you are less picky than me. It’s worth it nevertheless. With one kg, you are getting about 1.950 Round Rings. This is enough to cover an area of 25 x 11 cm respectively 10 x 4 inches.

Round Rings in history? You find Round Rings throughout time: From the Vimose-find during the final days of the Roman Empire to the early medieval Gammertingen-find to the Landsknechts Mail Capes. It’s good practice to get inspired by specific museum pieces. And with these rings get you reasonably close while outsourcing the laborious task of ring-making. They are especially suited if you aim for a rather strong and heavy mesh. In history, that would be especially desired for aventails of helmets and reinforced chest areas. It’s also suitable for entire shirts and hauberks.

You’re still wondering whether you should get Flat Rings or Round Rings? Here are my thoughts on YouTube.
