Description

8mm Flat Rings with Dome Rivets: Not only do they look nice and dense, but they are also comparably sturdy. That makes them one of the most requested rings in our portfolio. With this 1kg pack, you get 8mm loose Flat Rings and nicely shaped Dome Rivets in the correct ratio.

How do you use these Flat Rings? These will be suitable for most of your medieval projects. The Flat Rings are great on their own, but their true power enfolds in combination with solid rings. Here is why that is a good idea. The second image shows such a combination of riveted-solid mail. As you can see they merge like sword and shield. We also use them for repairs and tailoring.

How is the quality? No need to beat around the bush: These are the best rings of that type we found anywhere to offer you. There is a varying fraction of about 25% imperfect rings – perhaps less, depending on how strictly you sort them. Usually, it is the rivet hole sitting off the center. What you get here are about 1750 Flat Rings in 1kg. This is enough to cover an area of 25cm x 10cm or 25cm x 20cm in a 50/50 mixture with solid rings.

What about historical accuracy? In surviving chainmail you find Flat Rings from 900 AD to almost modern times. Some Flat Rings are super flat, others are only partially flattened. On the outside of an authentic chainmail shirt, you can see the domed rivet heads. On the inside, the original rivet heads are usually flat. This is a convenient option to replicate that look on the outside. If you want to have a smooth look on the inside as well, take the more elaborate Wedge Riveted Rings instead. You can compare it with my collection of examples on Pinterest.

You’re still wondering whether you should get Flat Rings or Round Rings? Here are our thoughts on YouTube.
